About Ayvurenda
The place of words
Ayvurenda comes from Guaraní: ayvu, word; renda, place. That is what a library is: the place where words wait for whoever looks for them.
Ayvurenda is online library management: the desk, the catalogue, each reader's card and a library you can walk into. It serves any library: a town's, a university's, a school's, a foundation's or a company's. It is used hosted on ayvurenda.com, with nothing to install, or inside Moodle™, as free, open-source software. It is made by Oksigenia SL.

Our north
We want reading to feel like walking into a place you love. A child coming back to the library because their flower has sprouted, a teenager finding a corner they did not know, a researcher taking a citation to their reference manager without losing the afternoon, a neighbour finding the book they wanted before leaving home. The screen helps; what matters still happens at the desk, in the conversation between someone looking for a book and someone who knows where it is.
«The library is a growing organism.»
S. R. Ranganathan, the fifth law of library science (1931)
That is why each reader's card grows with what they read, Memoria remembers what each one liked, and a group grows its island together. None of it is measured against anyone.
What guides us
- The desk comes first
- The conversation with the reader comes first; the screen helps and never gets in the way.
- Nobody competes
- Each card grows at its own pace. Whatever is shown about a group is added up and without names, and there are no rankings.
- Nothing withers
- What a reader achieves stays: at the end of the year, it goes into their album.
- Always yours
- Free, open-source code (GPL v3) and data in open formats. The library is yours, not ours.
- For any library
- Nothing is tied to one system, one platform or one country: what one library asks for is designed for all.
- For everyone
- Designed against WCAG 2.2, level AA, and the youngest can listen to what they cannot read yet.
Open standards
- The catalogue in MARC21, in Dublin Core over OAI-PMH, and in OPDS for e-book readers.
- Books by the Universal Decimal Classification, with their usual spine labels.
- New books by ISBN over SRU and Z39.50: the Library of Congress, Open Library, the National Library of Spain and REBECA.
- Citations in RIS and BibTeX, for Zotero, Mendeley or EndNote.
- Readers from OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2; the library inside other platforms with LTI 1.3.
- Backups encrypted with the open age format and kept in your own cloud over WebDAV.
Credits
- Free works from Project Gutenberg and Wikisource, with their authors' data from Wikidata.
- Illustrations, characters and voices: Oksigenia SL.
- Lucide icons (ISC), Three.js for the class island (MIT), ZXing to read codes with the camera (Apache 2.0), epub.js to read in the browser (BSD) and JSZip (MIT).
- Literata and Andika typefaces (SIL Open Font License).

To those who taught us to love books
Ayvurenda exists thanks to those who, over centuries, ordered, cared for, wrote and gave away books. Sometimes, on the visit, you can tell they are still there: in a spine label set just right, in the book waiting for its reader. This is for them:
Callimachus (c. 310 BC) · Henri La Fontaine (1854) · Paul Otlet (1868) · S. R. Ranganathan (1892) · Federico García Lorca (1898) · Jorge Luis Borges (1899) · María Moliner (1900) · Teresa Andrés (1907) · Astrid Lindgren (1907) · Gloria Fuertes (1917) · Augusto Roa Bastos (1917) · Gianni Rodari (1920) · Michael Ende (1929) · Bastian Balthazar Bux
And, above all, to Carmita Sabina.
Is someone missing? Write to us: this tribute keeps growing.
